The first day of school is less than a week away and I am EXCITED. It is going to be a week of new beginnings for all of us.
New Beginnings: School
After 14 months off from school for our RV roadtrip, Evan will be starting sixth grade at an actual school. He is so excited NOT to be homeschooling. When we toured the school, the principal asked him what he was most excited about he said “A schedule! I like to know when we are doing things!”
Who knew? I loved that we could fly by the seat of our pants and he hated it. I ask him if he misses all of our RV travels. He answers quickly “Nope. Not even a little”. I do think he gained so many experiences that he will remember forever like hanging out with our snowbird friends, touring Yellowstone, sliding down the dunes at Whitesands and swimming with manatees.
After 14 months, though, I am ready to have a bit of time to myself. In 14 months, I have been away from Evan for 8 days. Total. I am so excited to get to work on some very ignored portions of my business and my life.
New Beginnings: Home
Oh, and did I mention that we have moved to our lake place permanently (or at least for this year)? Our school options in Calgary this year left a lot to be desired. We don’t attend our local school for many reasons, the school he went to before we left is across town and the bussing options suck and the school he would attend for junior high is too full to allow him to attend for Grade 6.
It left Dewey and I scratching our heads and trying to figure out which not so great option to pick. Instead, we decided to do something crazy and look outside of Calgary. The school near our lake place is small. The classes are small and they do some really cool things like bee keeping and gardening.
Evan and I toured the school at the end of the school year and he fell in love. We are both excited to be a part of a smaller community and get to know our lake friends better and make new ones too. Dewey will be communting back and forth as he can (which is no hardship on him since the lake is definitely his happy place).
So the new school has our registration, we are on the bus route and we’ve bought all (well, most) of the school supplies. Now we are counting down the days until Tuesday.
All in all, it will be new beginnings for all of us and new ideas of how our lives can look. It is a HUGE change for me. I grew up in a small town but I have been a happy city dweller for over 13 years. I *may* be suffering from Starbucks withdrawals too!
So expect to see more lake pictures here but also know that I have a very strong tie to Calgary. I still consider myself a Calgary-ish blogger so lots will stay the same but you might notice a few differences. Thanks for being along for our wild ride!
