A Company Doing It Right, The BMO #HelpGiven Campaign

Evan and I

As a parent, I spend a lot of time trying to teach Evan the importance of treating everyone we see with respect and as a person. Not just as a “person who can/is doing something for me”. Know what I mean? We’ve all witnessed people who treat others like they are just there to serve without even acknowledging them as a person. I try my best not to do that and I am trying to teach Evan the importance of that too.

On the flip side, I also think it is important for people in business to bond with the people they see every day. I know as a customer, I LOVE it when I go into a business and they remember me. It is one of the reasons that we love our neighborhood pizza place so much. Every time we go in it is like going home. For small businesses it is easier but even big businesses can do it.

An example of that? BMO and their new #HelpGiven campaign. BMO has used the tagline “We’re Here to Help” for years. But who is the “we”? They wanted to show that the people in their branches ARE the people behind the help. So they asked their branch employees in Toronto, Chicago and Montreal to tell their stories about the customers they see every day that need a bit of above and beyond help.

At the end of their search, they chose BMO customer Arash who owns a deli. As a hardworking entrepreneur, Arash worked tirelessly to keep his deli afloat. Watch this video to see what his local BMO branch manager did to make his day brighter…

Isn’t that cool? I can just imagine how he felt AND he got to go enjoy a day of rest and relaxation in a local hotel while the BMO staff members worked in his restaurant for the day. Plus they set him up with a small business banker to support him with business planning and solutions, as well as shock-absorbent mats to outfit his workplace.

Kudos to BMO for showing that even big companies can have a heart and see the stories behind the individual customers they see every day!

Disclosure: BMO contacted me to share their BMO #HelpGiven campaign.  As always, all opinions on this blog are my own.

This is a great idea. Wouldn't it be cool if they did this for a mom who works from home either as an entrepreneur or a SAHM? That would make for great TV!
