Calgary Restaurants: The Street Eatery

Calgary Restaurants: The Street Eatery

Disclosure: I was hosted at The Street Eatery for dinner. I ordered off the normal menu. As always, all opinions are my own. I love trying new Calgary restaurants.

When I moved to Calgary in 2004, the restaurant scene was hella depressing. There were steak houses and chain restaurants and that was IT. Thankfully, Calgary restaurants have come into their own in the years since. Now there are so many new restaurants that I can’t even keep up with them all. This week, I had the chance to visit The Street Eatery. It isn’t all that new but it was the first visit for me. The Street Eatery is a sit down restaurant that brings together all kinds of different street food together in one place. Their menu includes items from the Southern US, Korea, India and more. We really enjoyed the eclecticness of the menu BUT it made it hard to decide what to order. I made a poor choice because I got two Korean dishes for my starter and main. Both were delicious but I was left wanting a different flavour as a foil. This was all on me, though, as there were lots of other things to choose from.

Korean Fried Chicken at The Street Eatery in Calgary

For our appetizer, we choose the Korean Chicken. Little nuggets of deep fried yumminess are coated in Gochujang Sauce and topped with scallions and sesame seeds. You get butter lettuce on the side as well. This was our favourite dish. Spicy yet flavourful!

Korean Shrimp Lettuce Wraps

For our mains, I ordered the Korean Lettuce wraps. They were tasty but since they were also made with Gochujang, they tasted very similar to the Korean Chicken. I liked them a lot but next time I will order one or the other but not both.

King Tostada at Street Eatery Calgary AB

Dewey decided to go with the King Tostadas. I had one tiny taste and then I looked back and they were gone. Rude. He said they were super tasty. I wouldn’t know since he didn’t share. 🙂

We thought we might need one more item to be full since both of our mains seemed small at the onset. After we finished, we were pleasently satiated, though. Of course, we couldn’t say no to one of their street shakes for dessert.  What is a street shake, you ask?

Salted Caramel and Peanut Butter Shake at The Street Eatery in Calgary

It’s a milkshake kicked up a notch with candy and other yumminess. We had the Salted Caramel Peanut Butter shake. It was adorned with M&Ms, Twix bars and cream puffs. I swore that I was “only going to have a sip”. Yeah.

Empty Milkshake at The Street Eatery

All that was left was a cream puff and a bit of whipped cream. It was DELICIOUS.

Mural at The Street Eatery

I also enjoyed that they decorated their space with fun and interesting murals. Perfect for a game of I Spy.

Overall we enjoyed our dinner and plan to return. It’s a fun concept that isn’t really being done in Calgary. I love street food and Calgary doesn’t have a lot of that (mainly because it is FREEZING most of the year). Plus you don’t have to be willing to eat on the sidewalk or during very limited hours. We are going back in the next week or so for Nicole’s birthday….who can say no to a Street Shake for your birthday!

There menu seems a little bit different. Different in a good way, that is. The food looks really tasty. If I ever get up to Calgary, I will have to check this place out.
