Chalk Paint Mason Jars with Cricut Tutorial

I just love flowers, so I’m always looking for adorable ways to display them in my home. These pretty chalk paint Mason Jars with cute sayings made with the Cricut are the perfect décor accent this spring or summer.

Fill these chalk painted jars with some beautiful peonies, or your favorite flowers. Bright and airy looking, they add a touch of farmhouse decor to any home.

Chalk Paint Mason Jars Tutorial

With the help of your Cricut machine, these painted jars are quick and easy to make. They make a fantastic gift too!

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

1 – Gather supplies.

2 – Thoroughly wash Mason jars with soap and hot water and let them dry completely before using. (You can use any type of jar but I love the writing on mason jars. It makes them so cute when they are done!)

Preparing the Mason Jars

3 – Apply a thin coat of chalk paint to each of the mason jars. We sell Cottage Paint at my store but you can find it at most craft or DIY places. Put aside to dry fully and repeat with additional coverage as needed.

4 – Open a blank canvas in Design Space.

5 – Select the text icon from the toolbar.

6 – Type GROW.

7 – Change the font to “Little White Lies”.

8 – With the word highlighted, adjust the letter spacing to 0.7.

9 – Stretch the lettering by clicking on the lock symbol above the size section and adjusting the height to 1.7” while keeping the width the same.

10 – Next, click on the unlock symbol and adjust the word height to 2”.

11 – With the word highlighted, click on the “Weld” button.

Cutting

Choosing your mat for cutting out vinyl words with Cricut

13 – Select “Make It” in Design Space.

Select Make It in Cricut Design Space to send your design to the cutting mat

14 – For cutting the words, set the material type to Premium Vinyl.

15 – Follow prompts for loading the mat into the Cricut Maker or Cricut Joy and cutting the Premium Vinyl. When prompted, unload the mat from the cutting machine.

16 – Remove the Premium Vinyl from the mat.

How to Assemble the Jars

17 – Cut around each word with a pair of scissors.

18 – Using the weeding tool, peel away the excess vinyl around the cut images and discard.

19 – Cut a piece of transfer tape a bit larger than the size of the text.

20 – Peel away the transfer tape backing but ensure the transfer tape is not overly sticky. Dab the sticky side of the transfer tape with your hand to weaken the adhesive.

21 – Place the transfer tape overtop of the cut word. Gently rub the vinyl to help it stick to the transfer tape.  Peel away the vinyl backing, leaving just the image adhered to the transfer tape.

Position the phrase with the transfer tape onto the smooth side of a jar and press in place. Press the vinyl phrase down with your fingers to help it to stick to the painted glass jar.

Slowly and carefully remove the transfer tape leaving the vinyl image on the jar.

22 – Repeat for the other mason jars.

23 – To finish, fill the containers with pretty peonies or other flowers of your choice.

  • -Cricut Premium Vinyl, Permanent in black
  • -3 Mason Jars lids removed, 16oz
  • -Americana Chalky Finish (for Glass) in Lace

Tools

  • -Cricut Maker (or Cricut Joy) with Fine Point
  • Blade
  • -Standard grip mat
  • -Scissors
  • -Weeder tool
  • -Paintbrush

Instructions
