2015 is here. I haven’t written before now because I have been chasing happy. This Christmas season that has meant spending time with family, reading, coloring mandalas, snowmobiling and only spending time online if I want to. Dewey has been off for two weeks and it has been amazing. We’ve had a great time as a family (including extended family) and it has been great to reconnect without the usual hustle and bustle of our daily lives.
Prior to the New Year, I mulled over whether to make any New Year’s resolutions. Honestly, I hate resolutions because I stink at sticking with them. I always plan to get fit enough to bench press a small car, lose enough weight to be a super model, give up wine and eat an organic, paleo, vegan diet….what could go wrong?
LOL. Have you met me?
So this year I decided to just LIVE. Yep. I’m going to take life by the horns and just do it. Some days that may mean laying on the couch and reading a book, some days that may mean riding snowmobiles with my family and some days that may mean traveling. What it doesn’t mean is talking negatively to myself about my weight, my diet or anything else for that matter. One of my friends suggested to think of what I say to myself and ask if I would say it to a friend or my child. If the answer is no, I shouldn’t say it myself either. Good advice, don’t you think?
One thing we have to remember is that we only get one chance to do it right. There are no do overs in life. We’re here and we have to make it the best we can. We all screw up along the way…we’re human. It’s all about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and forgiving yourself. There are no awards for self flagellation over past ills. None.
So that is what I am going to do. I’m going to keep chasing my happy in the new year, keep writing, keep enjoying my family, keep relaxing, keep cooking, keep walking my dog, keep hanging out with my friends, keep enjoying a glass of wine, keep snowmobiling…..just keep LIVING.
Thank you for coming along for the ride with me in this little corner of the internet. Know that I am infinitely grateful you are here and I hope you have a happy and healthy 2015. If you have a word you are holding dear in 2015 or a resolution, I would love to hear it in the comments!
