I don’t know about you but the news is getting me down lately. Every time I turn on the TV, look at a newspaper or open the internet, it seems that the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Unfortunately, most of it is far out of my realm of control but that doesn’t keep me from worrying about it. I am not one to just let it go. I worry and ruminate and then worry some more. Since you can still hear about the Malaysian Airline crisis, the Calgary triple murder investigation, friends with illnesses or illnesses in their families, and more, you will see that my worrying has absolutely no affect.
As much as we would love to control the world, we can’t. Or at least I can’t. Maybe if POTUS or the like is reading this, they could but I have my doubts that anyone with that kind of clout reads this blog. I digress. In the end, we are not in control of very much but we are in control of how we react to what is going on around us.
Does worrying ourselves in to a little pile of mush over current events help? Nope. Not in the least. Does hugging our kids, our families and our friends make things better? Yep. Does helping them cope with what is going on help? Yep!
You see, we are not guaranteed tomorrow and we will not be remembered for how much we worried. We’ll be remembered for how we made those around us feel. So I think you deserve a donut. Does it really have to be a bomb of sugar and fat? No, though I had one this morning and I highly recommend it. It could be a walk with a friend, a manicure, a great book or anything else that helps you cope. Because cope is what we must do and LIVE.
If we let what is going on around us freeze us in to a statue of despair, well, the bad things/people/events have won. As long as there is someone, anyone moving forward, putting one foot in front of the other, then life will go on.
Be that person who chooses life. Hug your kids, live your life, spend time with those you love…..
and eat that donut!
