Summer is the time for cookouts and barbecues and ice cream…..OH MY! It’s all so delicious and oh so messy. I can often tell what Evan has eaten on any given day by looking at his shirt. I do not have a budget for all new clothes every week so I needed to figure out how to remove stains so our clothes aren’t a “what they ate last week” documentary.
Before we get into that nitty gritty, though, let’s talk food. I mean, if you are going to wear it, it better be GOOD. First on my summer of YUM rotation (and totally worth the stains) are ribs. I like a good baby back rib though recently I have determined that side ribs are often cheaper and can be just as delicious. If Dewey is cooking, they are going on the smoker for a low and slow treatment. If I’m cooking, I am making them in the slow cooker because hot kitchens are the worst! My favourite recipe? This one! Slow Cooker Ribs.
My favourite side dish? Oooey gooey mac and cheese that is “slap your mama good”. I think that is a Southern expression but it totally works here. Trust me. This recipe is EPIC. Evan asks for it at least once a week. He also lists it as his most favourite food in the entire world. I call that a win. Oh and it also leaves big cheesy stains when you wipe your hands on your shirt or pants. Not that you would do that but Evan totally does.
I am not adding a salad recipe because, really, salads in the summer need no help. Just grab the freshest greens, veggies and possibly fruits possible. Toss them together with a bit of vinagrette and enjoy. Now clean up that dribble of balsamic on your shirt. Oh? Just me? Alrighty then.
Dessert is an integral part of the summer food scene. All those fresh fruits that are available just BEG for pies, cobblers and more. I love berries in all shape form or fashion but you know what is bad about berries? Berry stains! Oh my goodness. They are like nature’s magic markers! Make this Saskatoon Berry Pie because it is delicious but make sure to pretreat those stains, okay? Okay.
After you are all done with your day of feasting, relax around the campfire and reminice about your day. Oh and make S’mores. Everyone’s favourite treat is a delicious way to finish off your day. Want to make it extra special? Replace your normal chocolate with a Caramilk bar or a Reese cup or maybe some Nutella. I hate to break it to you, though, you will definitely end the night with a few marshmallow sticky spots and at least one smear of chocolate on your clothes. Hey…it’s dark. It’s not your fault.
So by now, I’ve given you a few recipes to try, made you ravenously hungry and explained why our clothes need HELP. Here are a few products that help keep us looking our best.
First for white clothes…because we all know the really hard stains only ever seem to happen when we wear white!

By combining tough stain fighters with colour safe brighteners, OxiClean™ Colour Shield Laundry

As we discussed, pre-treating is a MUST. Here are two products that work great to keep those stains moving right along instead of hanging out on your favourite tee. First up….
OxiClean™ MaxForce™ Spray
Gets the toughest stains out including grass, blood, grease, oil, food, drink, soil, and clay. Yeesh….sounds like a day at the lake to me!
Last but not least is the one I use ALL THE TIME in my house…
OxiClean™ MaxForce™ Foam Laundry Pre-Treater
The new OxiClean™ Max Force™ Foam Laundry Pre-Treater blasts away even the greasiest of stains the
first time with its foaming action.
Sometimes Evan’s shirts are just one big blob of foam. It is my favorite thing EVER. The foam stays where you put it and it gets your clothes clean, clean, clean.
So get out there and have an EPIC summer. Eat the messy foods, drink the drinks and roast the marshmallows. Your clothes may look awful by evening but you can rest easy knowing they will be back to their former glory in no time!
