Healing…My Breast Reduction Story Part 3
A little over a month has passed since my breast reduction surgery. Thankfully I am all healed and really don’t even feel like I ever had surgery. My wounds are all healed and flat. About 2 weeks after my surgery, I went into the doctor to let him look at everything to make sure all was well. He removed all the surgical tape that was still on my chest. He laughed and said I could have removed that myself. I had no idea so I left it alone. I wish I had known, though, as it left a few red marks from the adhesive being against my skin so long. I was pleased to find out that the sutures they use dissolve on their own so that was the only trip back to his office I required.
At about 2 weeks, my wounds started itching like crazy since they were healing. Slathering on lotion helped quite a bit. Other than that, healing was easy peasy. I didn’t even have to take any pain medication after Friday of the week I had my surgery on Tuesday.
My breasts were a bit…um…weird at first. They were super high up and pointed straight out. Not a true “breast” shape at all. That was due to the swelling. As the weeks have progressed, they have softened and fallen into a shape that is much more natural.
My doctor recommended waiting for a few more weeks after my appointment to get new bras. There were a few reasons for this. One…the weirdness I mentioned above. Two…an underwire is VERY uncomfortable in the first bit as it hits right where your scars are. I bought a few bras without underwire before my surgery and I haven’t felt the need to go buy any different ones. The only downside to that is that I can’t really tell you what size I am now. I truly have no idea. All I do know is that he took over 2 pounds out across my two breasts.
After it is all said and done, I am pee my pants happy I did it. I can wear so many more cute summer tops now. I love how I look and I only regret that I didn’t do it sooner. Seriously over the moon happy.
So here is a pic of me before:
And here is a pic I took today:

I had mine done 10 weeks ago! Best decision ever! Thank you for posting about your experience because reading about it gave me the kick in the butt to finally get mine done! I went from a 34G down to somewhere around a 34D so far! I haven’t had a headache, sore neck, shoulders or back since I had it done! I dealt with chronic pain in those areas for as long as I can remedy. Everything has healed up nicely and I finally love the look of my breasts. The only downside that I have to is that I am a little bigger around the middle than I realized 😂 but now that I have been given the ok to start to workout again I am hoping that I can firm that up just a bit!

Hahaha. The same thing happened to me. And then I gained a bit and WHAAAA....why is my belly so big. LOL. I feel your pain! I'm so glad you had a positive experience too. It is so hard to get over the hump to do it but it is so worth it.

I have been searching for a while for a good discussion forum around this subject.... i have changed my mind many times about moving forward with this even to cancelling my consult a couple of years ago. I have this preset thought that I am JUST NOT BIG ENOUGH to be approved for this to be completed as "medically necessary" and that other women that are bigger than I am will silently laugh like "why is she here?". That is me making up my own story...... but this I know.....I am one of those females that skipped the training bras and went straight to B cups when I was in 5th grade and I can honestly say that I have hated these things my entire life they have existed. Over the past 7-8 years I have gone from a solid 34C to a 34DDD (E) and I am in constant pain. Tomorrow is the consult and as long as i can get past my own unsureness about this AND of course this is approved by the insurance company..... I finally can't wait of the possibility of no pain, increased self confidence and buying cute bras for a change.

Barbara,
I completely understand! After my surgery I have gained weight so I still have a D but it is still a HUGE difference. I do not regret having the surgery one bit. Best thing I ever did.

I visit my plastic surgeon tomorrow to schedule my reduction and cannot wait! At 43 and a 38H, I simply cannot imagine the remainder of my years without this load. Thanks so much for sharing your story and for all the info you provided. You've helped me tremendously.

So after 2 cancellations, i just haf mine done on may 11, a few hiccups apparently they had a very hard time waking me and was in recovery for a ling time. I had a fever the next dau so i went into emergency anf was given Iv and they found no signs of infection so i think i am very sensitive to the anesthetic. I did have the lipo on the sides and i am still very uncomfortable there , very bruised. I stopped taking meds a couple days ago as they weren't helping with that anywau. Thank you so much for sharing your story
