Flipping through our pictures on Facebook might lead you to believe that we are having a glorious and perfect time on our trip. Frolicking through the daisies even. Well, I have to set you straight in case you actually believe that. This trip has not been all fun and games.
Firstly, our trailer smells like feet. I’m not sure if it is my feet or Evan’s that is causing the issue but it is GROSS. Extra shoes have been moved to our outdoor storage! Oh and don’t get me started on how much 10 year old boys like to fart! Thankfully, it is 12C today in Pocatello so I am able to open the windows and air things out a bit.
Secondly, homeschooling is no joke. Evan is completely capable but his best subject is whining. If I hear “in a minute” or “stop hurrying me” (as he stares off into space instead of doing work) of “but do I HAVE to do that?”, I may snap. Thankfully we are learning lots while we travel but he still has actually sit down and DO work. It is an ongoing struggle but in talking with other homeschoolers, I realize that I am not alone in this. So give me strength and give him willingness before we both lose it!
Thirdly,
I need a wifi fairy. Is that a thing?
Fourthly, I just realized where Evan might get his whining from. Hmmm.
I am so in love with what we are doing but it does get tough sometimes. Today Evan cried and said he wanted to go home. It was because I was making him write in his journal. I don’t think he REALLY wants to go home but it stung nonetheless. I will definitely have thicker skin at the end of the journey. Until then, I will keep reminding him to do his work and buy a BIG can of air freshener spray.

There is no perfect traveling companion, Merry. And tight quarters make it even more taxing. Just keep reminding yourselves that this is building character. And you're not only learning about the world; it's a character study of each other and how you handle what life throws at you. Hang in there!

Homeschooling is not without whining here either (theirs or mine) and crying does happen here too - usually me in the bathroom wishing for chocolate. 😉
