Pfanntastic Pannenkoek Haus Calgary

Evan is my little foodie. He doesn’t like everything (cooked vegetables? Nuh uh!) but he is willing to try just about anything (dim sum? YUM!). I love that about him and I keep trying to push the envelope with him. Thankfully we started early because these days he is pickier than he was as a littler kid.

One of his favorite brunch treats is to go for Pannenkoek at Pfanntastic Pannenkoek Haus in Calgary. Pannenkoek is Dutch for pancake but they are not like the pancakes you are used to. They are almost crepe-like and cooked full of yummy ingredients. My favorite is potato, bacon, onion and cheese. Unfortunately, no matter how willing Evan is to try new foods…he will NOT eat onions. Today Evan and I went to Pfanntastic Pannenkoek Haus by ourselves (usually we all go) so we got one potato, bacon and cheese and one apple cinnamon to split.

Each pannenkoek is 12″ in diameter so it is a LOT of food. Usually each of us gets half of a savoury pannenkoek and then we split a sweet one between all 5 of us. Evan decided to see the sheer amount of food as a challenge. He did his best to eat it all and he *almost* made it. Pretty good for a guy who doesn’t eat half the time.

While this may seem a bit of a departure from your normal brunch place, I definitely recommend you give it a try. Flavours you know and love baked in to a crepe? Now how could that go wrong. Plus they have great coffee! You know that is high on my priority list. Plus it comes with a yummy ginger cookie (which I do not share! Thankfully they gave Evan one of his own.).

I should mention that Pfanntastic Pannenkoek Haus gets VERY busy on the weekends. You will most likely have to wait but it generally moves pretty fast. There is a list so make sure your name is on it before you start waiting.
