This cherry dump cake recipe reminds me of growing up in Alabama. My mom made it often. It can be quite sweet so I like to pair it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Dump cake sounds a bit weird but the name is a nod to how easy it is to make. You “dump” each of the ingredients into the casserole pan. It’s really THAT easy.
Retro Cherry Dump Cake Recipe
Don’t like cherries? You can change up the pie filling in the dump cake as you like. You can also add chopped pecans to the topping.
It’s a very forgiving recipe that allows you to change things up and still have dessert on the table in no time flat.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 can crushed pineapple, ~20oz, undrained
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1 cup butter, 2 sticks
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Pour pineapple in the bottom of a 9X13 inch pan.
Layer the cherry pie filling onto the pineapple.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix on top of the cherry pie filling.
Melt butter and pour over the cake mix.
Bake for 45 minutes to an hour or until the topping is golden brown.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

I have always sprinkled chopped pecans on top before baking. I have had a recipe for this since the 70's

My husbands grandmother made a "Puddin Cake". It sounds kinda like your retro cherry dump cake only using peaches rather than cherry's. Have you heard of it? I'd love to make it for him if you have the recipe.
He is saying it was a cake baked with a pudding bottom and canned peaches poured on top of the cake.?
Anyways the recipe was lost when she past away. So I'm not sure what I'm looking for.
Thank you for your help.

I'm not sure it is the same but see if this is like what he means. Peach Cobbler. I make it with fresh peaches but you could use canned.

That is so awesome, Miriam! I'm glad you found my recipe and it is so cool that your mom and I share the same name spelling. I haven't met many people that do. Did she have a Christmas birthday? Mine is the 22nd which is why I am named Merry. Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you again soon!
