Got a major sweet tooth? I know that I have one! Looking for a fun and portable dessert for your next party or get together? Check out our sweet charcuterie jars! Just like charcuterie platters, it gives you just a taste of lots of yummy treats all together in a single serving jar. You might even want to call it “Jarcuterie” but we just call it fun!
What IS Jarcuterie, Anyway?
The term “jarcuterie” is a play on words with “jar” and “charcuterie.” The idea is to strategically place charcuterie inside a mason jar to create beautiful, individual servings of deliciousness. In this case, the individual servings are sweet treats including chocolate striped pretzels and Tanghulu fruit that we tell you how to make.
What is Tanghulu Fruit?
Tanghulu is a popular fruit snack throughout Northern China. You can use any fruit you want and it is covered in a crunch sugar coating that really makes the fruit taste pop. It’s the perfect way to include fruit in your sweet charcuterie jars. The sugar coating makes them a bit sweeter and the crunch keeps your fruit from getting squished.
For a fun alternative, I am using the tastiest sweets to create a dessert-infused jarcuterie. Read my easy tutorial below to learn how to make them so that YOU can serve them to your friends and family! They’ll absolutely adore it!
How To Put Together Sweet Charcuterie Jars
Equipment
- 8 – 12 oz. mason jars
- Parchment paper
- Baking sheets
Ingredients
- Water
- Granulated sugar
- Fruit of your choice
- Pretzel sticks
- Pretzel twists
- Candy melts (your choice of colors)
- Chocolate-dipped strawberries
- Mini marshmallows
- Dried fruit
Instructions
First we’re going to make Tanghulu fruit. It’s a delicious candy coated fruit that tastes amazing but is super easy to make!
In a medium-sized sauce pan, mix one part water and two parts sugar. Heat to a boil.
Skewer your choice of fruits (or use toothpicks) and then submerge the fruit into the syrup. Be careful because boiling sugar is HOT!
Dip in ice water to harden the syrup into a crunchy glaze. Set aside.
Next, prepare the candy-striped pretzels: melt candy melts according to package’s directions.
Add each color to its own piping bag (you can also use a plastic sandwich bag with the corner cut off).
Cover in one color, then repeat for each color, add sprinkles, if desired.
Allow to set for about 25 minutes.
Break apart into clusters to stand up in the jars.
Construct Your Sweet Charcuterie Jars
Start with the marshmallows (they make for a soft foundation to build on)
Add in a selection of sweet treats until your sweet charcuterie jars look full and fabulous.
Notes
You can also use just about anything small and sweet as fillers: mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, or any kind of chocolate covered nuts and or candies, or my Dipped Peanut Butter Pops without the sticks.
