Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Purolator and their Purolator Tackle Hunger® program. They are partnering with the Calgary Stampeders to Tackle Hunger in Calgary. As always, all opinions are my own.
It’s summer time and most of us are hitting the beach, throwing a backyard bbq or going on vacation. Unfortunately, not everyone is quite so lucky. Hunger and food scarcity does not take a vacation and many Calgarians look to the Calgary Food Bank in the summer. In fact, the Calgary Food Bank hands out over 5000 hampers to families and individuals in need PER MONTH. That is a lot!
Today I went to the grocery store to buy food for a big get together we are having on the weekend. I got to buy exactly what I wanted without worry. The privilege to be able to do that is one that I never take for granted. Giving that privilege isn’t something I can do but making eating for the week totally is. We can all make a difference in our own way. No donation is too small!
So how can you help Tackle Hunger?
On Saturday, July 21st, head to the Calgary Stampeders Game at McMahon Stadium. Purolator volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food items or cash donations from 4 p.m. to the end of the first quarter (game starts at 7 p.m.) at the gates. As part of the festivities, you can also get a chance to get your photo made with the Grey Cup!
What does the Calgary Food Bank need most?
The food bank can always make monetary donations go the furthest but they are also in need of the following food items:
- pasta sauce
- macaroni & cheese
- peanut butter
- canned beans
- canned vegetables
- canned soup
- canned fruit
- canned meat and fish
So head to the store and pick up a few of these items OR bring your wallet. Not going to the game? Well, you can still donate! Head over to the Purolator Tackle Hunger page to donate today!
No one should have to worry where their next meal will come from. Unfortunately, more than 850,000 Canadians visit food banks every month, and sadly, more than one-third of them are children.
Purolator Tackle Hunger® by the numbers
- In 2017, Calgary Stampeders fans donated more than 74,000 pounds of food for local families through the Purolator Tackle Hunger program.
- Since 2003, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program has helped deliver more than 1.3 million pounds to the Calgary Food Bank.
Not in Calgary? Purolator will be Tackling Hunger at lots more CFL games before summer is over.
So let’s make this year even BETTER. I’m going to make a cash donation today. Will you join me? Let’s make summer a bit less stressful for our fellow Calgarians.
