Are any of these things new to you? LET ME TELL YOU WHY THEY’RE AWESOME.
1) Crave Cookies and Cupcakes is amazing. It was started in Calgary by two sisters, who used family recipes to create the BEST CUPCAKES EVER. Now they have stores in Edmonton and Saskatoon, as well. It’s no secret that I heart them. Crave treats are delicious because they are made from scratch in the stores each day. I frequently rant about their cupcakes, but they also have marvelous cakes and bars. Watch for the s’mores bars this summer – they’re delicious.
2) Marble Slab Creamery makes ice cream AND waffle cones fresh in-store, and you can choose a bunch of different things to mix in, including candy or fruit (which makes it healthy). I first became addicted to Marble Slab in America. I was SUPER HAPPY when they opened their first store in Calgary!! And I just read on their website that this happened ten years ago. Now I feel old. And I want some ice cream.
3) Mastermind Toys has a huge selection of high-quality toys. What I really love about their website and store is that they have awesome stuff you won’t find anywhere else. On top of that, their website is awesome. It lets you shop by brand, type of toy, or age. AND you can narrow your search by price, which helps you stay on budget!
4) Scholar’s Choice has a phenomenal selection of educational and imaginative toys. They sell a lot of teachers’ supplies like alphabet posters and workbooks, hence the name. I’m a nerd, and I’m raising nerdy kids, so I buy the teacher things, too. BUT the toys are wonderful, and represent at least half the store. For instance, right here you can win the famous GoldieBlox engineering toys for girls (remember the Superbowl ad?) and an awesome Spot It party game!
5) The Calgary Zoo is world-class. I feel very lucky to live in a city with such a spectacular zoo. I love them so much, I’ve written about them not once, but twice in the past year. The enclosures are lovely, the animals are well-cared-for, and my kids adore the carousel and the train. I have a great deal of admiration for the employees and volunteers who make it such a wonderful place to visit all year round.
