The only thing that is definite when traveling is that ANYTHING could happen. That is why going with the flow is one of my biggest hints for stress free travel. There are so many things that you can not control that can affect you. If you let every one of these things freak you out, you will be a sweating, crying mess by the time you arrive at your destination.
Today, we are flying back to Calgary from Madrid. Everything seemed to be going great when we reached the Madrid airport and we boarded our flight. Then we sat…..
and started to wonder what was going on…
and sat some more.
Then the pilot came on and told us that there were more people on the plane than there were supposed to be. Um…what? News stories of stolen passports and passengers who might not be who they said they were flashed through my brain. Thankfully, it was nothing that exciting or scary. The ground crew had made a mistake on the paperwork and the last few people who checked in were not included. Phew. Unfortunately that took quite a while to rectify. During which time we SAT.
Finally the plane took off and we were winging our way to London. Upon arrival, we thought we were all good….we had 30 minutes! Dewey and I have both made flights with less time left. Unfortunately, we were turned around at security and told to rebook our flight. There is only one flight from Heathrow to Calgary per day so…you do the math. Now we are routed through Vancouver and our current flight is delayed too.
Meh. It is what it is.
I know that sounds crazy but I’m really not freaked out about it. I can’t be. There is NOTHING I can do. We could yell and scream (and get arrested!) but the end result would be the same or worse. So instead, we went and had a beer on the airline (thanks British Airways) and now we are waiting to board our flight.
Fingers crossed we make our connection in Vancouver. But if not…..we’ll figure it out.
Or drink….drinking works too. 🙂
