Vacationing Without a Net

It is winter and we are craving sun and sand. In the past we have headed south to one of our favorite all inclusive resorts either with or without Evan. Dewey and I love to travel but we haven’t introduced Evan to travel outside of Alabama and all inclusives. Until now.

Dewey and I on our first trip to Bali

Last minute plans plus not great last minute Mexico options plus a crazy comment by my dear husband means that we have decided to wing our way back to visit Bali this year for our winter vacation. Ten years ago, Dewey and I visited for our honeymoon and now we are taking Evan on our return visit. Cool huh?

So where does the without a net thing come from? Well, it takes us 26 hours and 3 flights for us to get to Bali. Evan’s longest flight up to this point has been the 5 hours it takes to get to Cancun. Thankfully we have booked a red eye to Taipei so hopefully he can sleep most of the 13 hour flight and wake up ready to take on the world. Then his iPad will keep him occupied from there. In fact, he is super stoked about some fully sanctioned iPad marathon time.

Beach in Bali

So we are setting sail, jumping off the cliff…whatever other metaphor you would like to imagine. We will be touring through paradise in our rain ponchos (did I mention that it is the rainy season), eating nasi goreng and gado gado, feeding the macaques in the monkey forest, touring Hindu temples and lounging on the beach.  We will be taking the iPad but I refuse to pack food for Picky McPickerson (Evan) so he will be learning to wing it. Here’s hoping we all live through it. I’m mostly kidding I think it will be amazing.

Oh and in case you think we’ve won the lottery, so far the trip won’t cost much more than going to an upscale Mexican all inclusive for a week (and we will be away going to Bali for 12 days). So never decide that you can’t go on that vacation you dream about. Look in to it, you may be pleasantly surprised (especially if it is the rainy season).

When was the last time that you threw caution to the wind and decided to just go for it?

Wow - it's going to be great but aieeeee that flight! I'm sure it will go well though - in my experience kids do better than we think they will (fingers crossed!)

I know, right? I think we'll be fine because our longest flight starts at 11pm. Hopefully we all can get some sleep.
