On Sunday we trekked out to Big Hill Springs Provincial Park to take family pictures with Andrea of Pink Antler Photography. Honestly, the pictures were pretty easy and uneventful. The day and a half leading up to them was uber stressful for me, though. First there was shopping for clothes to wear for the kids, an unbathed kid (who was supposed to have bathed), etc, etc, etc. It’s a good thing that pictures only come around once a year!!!!!
After we finished up with our pics, we figured everyone deserved a treat so we headed to Cochrane for ice cream. MacKay’s is famous for it’s homemade ice cream that they’ve made since 1948, which makes it weird that I’ve never been there. Add to that my love for the name McKay because it’s my mom’s maiden name (yes I know the spelling is a bit different but close enough), it makes it even weirder. Regardless, it definitely won’t be my last visit because YUM!
When you get to MacKay’s don’t be alarmed if there is a line winding out the door. It really doesn’t take that long.
Plus, it will give you time to pick from all the tons of flavors that they have. The one downside to MacKays is that you have to pick from the flavor list because you can’t see in the freezers. Some of the cooler flavors that I saw being served and/or in the take home freezer were mini donut, durian, jackfruit and avocado. Nicole chose the mini donut flavor & she swore it tasted just like mini donuts.
It was a great way to end the day and we will definitely be returning. For the 5 of us to get one scoop of ice cream in waffle cones it was around $25. I know the price sounds steep but I think the experience is worth the price especially considering how expensive EVERYTHING is in Calgary.
