Disclosure: A big shout out to Always Online Wireless for keeping me connected while we are exploring Central Florida. Without their data services, I would be dead in the water. As always, all opinions are my own.
Greetings from Orange City, Florida. Since I last posted an On the Road update, we’ve been here, there and everywhere in Central Florida. We totally enjoyed our week and a bit in Crystal River and Homosassa visiting the manatees. You can read about our Swim with the Manatees in Crystal River and our kayak down the Chassahowitzka. I have more to write about that trip so stay tuned. Out of everything we have done on this trip, visiting Crystal River is our favourite. If you are planning to visit Florida, DEFINITELY tack on a few days to visit.
Dewey joined us for the tail end of that trip. We did a manatee swim in Homosassa with River Adventure Tours. It was super cook because we had the tour all to ourselves other than one other lady. Dewey said the manatees freaked him out a bit since he’s a prairie boy and all. He still had a great time. Dewey wanted to have an adventure so we let him pick where we headed next. He decided we should head for the beach!
Red Coconut RV Park in Ft. Myers, FL was to be our home for 2 nights before we left to head to Legoland. Then we saw the beach. We decided to stay for 4 nights instead. We lucked out and got a RV spot RIGHT on the beach. There’s nothing like being able to stumble out to the beach right after waking up. Plus, Cooper was allowed on this beach. Other than a metric ton of sand in our trailer, we had a great time and would definitely go back to Ft. Myers.
For Christmas, we gave ourselves a few days in an Airbnb. After a few months in Daisy, we love being able to stay somewhere else every once in a while. However, we didn’t realize just how TINY our rental was. We were all basically in one room. It was right on Cocoa Beach, though, so that made up for it.
On Christmas Eve, the Surfing Santas event happened right outside our back door. It was fun to see hundreds and hundres of surfers dressed as Santa trying to surf on the epically BAD surf. Cocoa Beach is a cool little town. We walked to different places to eat while we were there and checked out all the super cool murals.
The weather was a bit cold and blustery so beach days weren’t really on the schedule. All in all, it was a great break from the tininess of Daisy but we were ready to move on to somewhere with more to do and where we could stay for a while.
Dewey helped us find an RV park with an opening. January – March is a hard time to find an RV spot in Florida as all the snowbirds have flown in to roost. We stayed a few days in Winter Haven, Florida which is right by LEGOland. Evan was PUMPED. We got media tickets to be able to write about it. You’ll see a full post here soon, but until then check out Evan’s video review.
We were hoping to stay in Winter Haven for a month but we weren’t sure that was going to happen. Since we couldn’t be sure and we didn’t want to be without a place to stay, we moved to Orange City, Florida. Orange City is near Deltona between Ocala and Orlando. We’ll be here for at least a month. Currently the weather is dreary, rainy and cold. The cold snap that has a grip on the US has it’s talons into us as well. We’re hoping the weather improves soon so we can visit our favourite place….DISNEY. We are comtemplating buying yearly passes so we can make the most of our time while we’re here. We’d love to hear your experience if you’ve had an annual pass!
We’re on the road for a few more months at least so until next time:
