Evan's Favorite Green Smoothie
My health and exercise routine has taken a back seat for the last six months. I wish I could give you a solid excuse for that but then I would be lying. It just hasn't been a focus. The one thing that I have done pretty consistently, though, is to add green smoothies to my diet. You see, no matter how hard I try, I just don't seem to get enough servings of vegetables on to my plate. Green smoothies are my favorite way to get all that green leafy goodness in to my body with as little effort as possible. Wait....before you starting thinking "ICK...green smoothies....gross!" let me assure you that they are so delicious that even Evan slurps them down with joy.
One thing I've determined in all my smoothie testing, though, is that you MUST add protein in to the mix or you are hungry again in no time flat. My favorite way to get that protein staying power? Greek yogurt! Yep, a healthy sized spoon full of Greek yogurt brings it all together without making your smoothie overly dairy heavy and it will keep you full right up until lunch time.
Evan's Favorite Green Smoothie
3 cups organic baby spinach
½ of a large frozen banana
~½ cup frozen blueberries
heaping serving spoon of Greek Yogurt
~½ cup juice (we like mango or orange)
water as needed for blendability
Optional - 1 tablespoon flax seeds
Add ingredients in you blender. Make sure to put the spinach in first or it doesn't blend very well. Serve and enjoy. This makes one large smoothie or two small ones.
Yoplait just released it's new Source Greek Yogurt. It has twice the protein of regular Source yogurt, only 50 calories and no added sugar. Currently I've only been able to find strawberry or vanilla flavored in the stores where I shop in Alberta but they also have lemon. I'm hoping they come out with plain as well.

Hey Merry, got my kids drinking green smoothies - we like to add peanut butter and I use almond milk too. Today's version wasn't the prettiest to look at but nonetheless it still tasted yummy!
eat more salads!
Adding granola and fruit to my yogurt!
I've never tried spinach in my smoothies... So tempted!
I like to drink lots of water, cut out pop and sugary juices
thanks
I've been trying to cut out sugar as much as I can. Just made the switch from cereal in the morning to greek yogurt with unsweetened granola added. Tasty!
Eat more yogurt and fruits
yogurt with frozen strawberries and bananas with protien powder
Juicing carrots and kale and mix with greek yogurt.
I swapped iceberg lettuce for spinach in my salads.
I sneak spinach and ground flax into foods wherever I can. Admittedly, love greek yogurt but have never tried spinach in a smoothie. Look out family!
I recently discovered chia seeds...great protein source & also great for fibre! Plus it doesn't change the taste of my food.
To boost nutrition I like to add ground flax seed to salads and smoothies
Thanks for the recipe! I can't wait to try it. My goal for the summer is to eat healthier for the marathon I'm scheduled to run in October!
I cut up veggies and fruit right when I bring them home from the store - I am more likely to reach for some bell peppers as a snack if they are already cut up and ready to snack on. Convience is my key!
I m trying to drink more water and walk a lot more
when making supper I always try to add extra veggies into the mix. For example when making pasta sauce I will add grated carrots and zucchini chopped up really small. My family does not know it is there but it adds so much
Would love to try the yogurt. Been wanting to get a scuba hoodie from Lululemon as well, *crosses fingers*
Vitamin supplements. Fast and makes sure nothing is left out.
I've been working on this! I've been upping the nutrition in my diet with more fruits and veggies and yogurt as well.
