Southern Peach Cobbler - Best Recipe EVER!
Growing up in the South, you MUST love peach cobbler. It's served at every barbecue joint you visit, every church potluck, and every holiday meal. It's basically the signature dessert of the south, and everyone's grandma has the best peach cobbler recipe EVER. Well, I'm no one's grandma but this is the BEST Southern Peach Cobbler recipe I have ever made or eaten.

Putting the batter under the peaches may seem a bit weird. After all, the only dessert with crust on the bottom is pie, right? Don't worry, it will reverse while baking. The crust will end up right on top like it is supposed to.
The Best Peach Cobbler, Promise!
It all starts with peaches. Find the best peaches you can. Ripe, sweet peaches are the heart of this dessert, and without them, your recipe will be "meh" at best. Next to fresh peaches, frozen are the best. I end up using frozen peaches often because fresh peaches aren't available very often here. We really don't recommend canned for this recipe because it's hard to know how much sugar each brand has which really affects the results. Love peaches, you'll need to try out peach clafoutis too!
Build on that foundation of natural sweetness with a batter that's sugary, buttery, and full of southern goodness. It'll bake up to create a delicious crust that will rival anything you've ever had before.
And that yummy crust is cakey and tender instead of too biscuity and dense. As the batter cooks, it bakes up and through the peaches and butter, leaving a buttery caramelized crust that pairs perfectly with the peaches underneath. To me, it is what makes cobbler a cobbler. No pie crust here! Nope, that is for pie. Cobbler topping should be cakey, buttery and delicious.
I know what you are thinking...could I make this into a cast iron peach cobbler? I haven't but I'm sure you could as long as your cast iron skillet was big enough. Put a cookie sheet on the rack underneath just in case it bubbles over a bit.

You'll find yourself making sure you get one of the corner pieces with the maximum amount of caramelized goodness. It's sweet, decadent, and buttery. It's soul food peach cobbler at its finest.
Make this the next time you have a cookout, and I PROMISE people will ask for your recipe. It's up to you whether you give them the recipe or swear that your great-grandma Mabel made you SWEAR to never share it with anyone.
Or give it to them with the understanding that you will be eating the best peach cobbler at their next cookout, too. I think either can be a win/win.

How to Store Your Cobbler
This southern peach cobbler is best enjoyed warm and fresh from the oven, but you can store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to four days.
To reheat your cobbler, you can microwave a single piece for about 1 minute or until hot. If you stored your cobbler in the original baking dish, you can put the entire thing back in the oven and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until heated through. It's perfect for a second night of dessert for the family.

I never comment on blogs, which should tell you something...
This recipe is AH-MAZING.
I doubled it, used self-rising flour, left out the extra sugar, and used my Nana's home canned peaches which I drained and boiled with a couple tablespoons of brown sugar because 'Merica. 😉 Hehe
Nothing brings me home better than this. 🙂
Thank you.
Thanks for commenting! Glad you liked it!
Merry, I have made this cobbler twice. I am making it tonight with frozen blackberries. Great cobbler. I serve hot with vanilla ice cream. It's a winner.
Glad to hear it!
This recipe is absolutely wonderful! Took to a Church pot lock & I had so many wonderful compliments! Thanks Merry for sharing your Sweet Recipe!! 🙂
Tonight I made you amazing peach cobbler!!! I followed the instructions step by step and my family loved it. I used fresh frozen peaches. I made sure to taste the peaches before I added anything to them. I did this because I read a few reviews that said the cobbler was to sweet. The frozen peaches had no added sugar so they were bitter with just a hint of sweetness. So added 1 cup of suger made them turn out perfect. I think some people may be using peaches with sugar already added or maybe thinking you said add two cups of sugar to the peaches. Its only 1 cup of sugar to the peached and 1 cup of sugar to the flour mixture. I just wanted you to know we loved it just the way you made it!!! Thanks I will be passing this recipe along the grapevine.
Yay! I am so happy to hear!
Excellent recipe. Thanks for sharing
Just made this! It's amazing. I used canned and drained them...it was a hit. Made one with regular flour and one gluten free!!
Yay!!
I'm so excited to make this, I've been looking for a yummy recipe, and tomorrow is Easter, I have canned peaches, but I think I'm going to go to the store and buy fresh peaches because that is what the recipe suggest. Thankyou for posting the recipe!! 🙂 happy Easter.
Enjoy! If they don't have fresh, frozen work well too.
I'm so dumb, peaches aren't in season right now haha all well canned will have to do for now 🙂 thanks agian!
Best cobbler ever but I made a few changes. There are only two of us so I kinda halved it. Used a 9x9 baking dish, a full quart of our own canned peaches. I dumped the syrup off the peaches but did not drain them so there was some syrup left. Our peaches were canned in a medium syrup so we didn't add any sugar to them. Only to the dough. Turned out great. Thanks so much for a great recipe.
So glad to hear it!
Could you use fresh cherries?
Hmmm. I don't see why not but I haven't tried it to tell you the exact sugar measurements. If you search my blog I have a peach and cherry cobbler that you should try!
This looks really yummy, peaches are falling off the tree so this is a perfect start to useing them. I'm going to make it for my bible study group. Thank you!!
I made this peach cobbler for our family Fathers Day dinner. It was delicious..,and all gone! I'll be making it again soon.
So glad you enjoyed it!
the best peach cobbler we ever had ...thanks so much....we did not change a thing we did it like you said
I did it in a 9 by 13 pan and the top burnt in 10 minutes ?Smelled really good though.
So weird. As you can see, many have made it without issue. Maybe check your oven temp?
Making this right now. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Trying as the recipe suggests. Yeah!!!
This was the best peach cobbler. The first one is gone and now I'm working on my second peach cobbler.
So glad you enjoyed it!
How long to boil fresh peaches?
For a bit...maybe 3 minutes.
I am not a baker but I'm pretty ok at following directions. I came across your recipe and decided to try it because it's different. I only had a 9x13 dish and almost 1 cup more peaches (thanks Dad and his peach tree). I put them all in anyway. I mixed a 1/4tsp of cinnamon and nutmeg into the batter because I'm such a rebel like that. I could the mix coming through peaches as soon as I started putting them in.....niifffty. I lput in the oven while I reduced the remaining peachylemonsugarjuice on the stove. Channeling my inner MasterChef,I took out the dish and drizzled this with a spoon over the bake. I'm making this for my in-law's anniversary party. I never cook anything for parties. That's my hubbie's gig. Buuuut..... I think I just made gold! Well, peachy gold. It smells so good! How to keep it safe and untouched until the party is another challenge.
Thank you for this guilty peachy pleasure!
This is an awesome recipe to start with, but I feel like it's a bit lacking in depth of flavor. I made it a second time but used less sugar in the peaches and added vanilla extract into the peaches along with a tsp of pure maple syrup. For the rest of the sugar I subbed half of it for brown sugar. I also used cinnamon in the batter and peaches and a dash of nutmeg. Phenomenal with those tweaks!!!
By the way I have made this recipe several times now and although I have used variations based on what I had on hand it has never disappointed. I make it vegan for my husbands church when they are on in a fasting time, and made it with blackberries and mixed berries instead of peaches, added lime zest to the batter...it doesn't matter how I have changed it this comes out beautifully every time. Thank you again for sharing this recipe!!
I have made this awesome recipe with a tweek here and there over the years from canned peaches, frozen peaches and fresh peaches. All incredible.
