Taco in a Bag - Fun Camping Food!
Taco in a Bag is something I had never heard of until I moved to Canada. Whether you call it taco in a bag or walking toacos, they are a must for camping and hockey arenas. You'll be amazed at how easy, delicious and filling this super simple meal is. Our school even makes them for a hot lunch fundraiser.
Buy a big package of single serve doritos and you will be making them all summer. It's the perfect summer lunch or dinner when no one wants to come inside.

Taco In a Bag Basics

- Single serve bags of either Doritos or Frito corn chips
- Taco meat or chili (we use this chili recipe or canned)
- Taco Toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomato, shredded cheese, salsa, hot sauce, sour cream, etc
Open the chip bag at the top. Fold down the top of the single serve chip bag. Crunch the chips up a bit (makes them easier to get on your fork). Add a spoonful of chili or taco meat (but not too much). Add your toppings and mix it around a bit. YUM!

Recipe Notes: Don't put too much meat/chili. If this is all you are eating, you should probably have 2 per person. Next time you make chili, make extra & freeze it so that you have extra for taco in a bag. Then you can throw it in your camping cooler and it will thaw in time for you to heat it up easily. In a pinch? Canned chili works just fine!
These are perfect for camping or just lunch around the house. Just make your chili ahead of time or use canned. It is easy peasy to microwave it (or heat it in a pot when camping) when you need to make your Tacos in a bag. So easy, yet such a hit.
Taco in a Bag for a Crowd
If you want to make Taco in a Bag for a big crowd, heat your chili or taco meat in a slow cooker. Purchase individual Doritos bags from Costco and set out big bowls of toppings. It's a great way to feed a big crowd easily and inexpensively. Perfect for a party!

Girl I learned the recipe today from your post. I'll try that. I think it will be an exciting one for upcoming outing. Thanks for sharing.
I've never had this, but it looks awesome. I've got to try it!
We had these at work once except they sliced the bag open lengthwise and opened it up. Kind of easier to get at that way...I suppose depending on if you're walking around with it, or sitting at a table lol
I think it depends on how sturdy the bags are & how old your diners are. I was afraid of slicing the bags b/c I thought the slice might keep going ruining the bag.
hmm, this will be a big hit. now on the menu for our next camping trip. which i hope is in the next couple of weeks!
This is such a good idea! We don't camp, but I bet they'd be fun outside on the patio 🙂
I fell in love with this recipe years ago when I was at a retreat at a stadium. The food court did everything in a bag and my favorite was taco in a bag. I knew it was so easy to make but always forgot about it.
Love this
We started doing this a few years back, and have had it on EVERY camping trip we've been on ever since! ...except our family re-named this recipie "Tacos InTENTS!" I decided after our first Tacos InTENTS experience that I would save it only for a camping meal- not because it's not an easy meal- it IS easy- but simply to keep it as a special camping-only hit! Now it's a major part of our family camping experience that the kids specifically look forward to and are really excited about!!!! In other words, I'd say it has officially become a fun family tradition!
I made these the last time I went on a trip. We ate outside at a truck-stop and it was so easy. Had ground beef precooked so just had to warm it up. Filling and delicious both. We used jar salsa instead of transporting the veggies.
