The last few times I have visited the US, I have fallen in love with sweet tea vodka. Those of you who know what it is are probably nodding your head, those who don’t are probably thinking “What in the heck is that?”

Well, it is vodka that is infused with tea and sweetened a tiny bit. It makes fabulous, summery cocktails. The problem for me? I’m not sure that anywhere in Calgary sells it and I am too lazy to go looking for it.

Google to the rescue! There were quite a few different methods on the interwebs to try. I decided to try the easiest one and it worked!

I am going to give you instructions to make a pint. Make it, try it and then you can increase the recipe to whatever volume you wish to make. Just be careful and don’t let it steep too long as it can get bitter if you do.

Ingredients

Sweet Tea Vodka

3 tea bags, I used normal black tea but other varieties would be fine
1 pint Vodka
2 Tbsp Sugar

Instructions

Fill pint sized glass jar (or larger) with vodka.
Add three tea bags.
Shake and then let steep for 2 hours.
Remove tea bags.
Stir in sugar.
Keep stirring...it takes a while for it to dissolve.
Enjoy!

Even if you do live somewhere that sells sweet tea vodka, I recommend trying your hand at making it. It is super easy and a way to use up some of the 6 open, partially used vodka bottles kicking around in your liquor cabinet (or is that just me?). Sweet Tea Vodka Cocktails

My favourite sweet tea vodka cocktail is super simple. Fill your favourite glass with lots of ice, add one ounce of sweet tea vodka and then fill with lemon San Pellegrino to the top. Garnish with a slice of lemon. Now you have a Spiked Arnold Palmer, a summery cocktail that is perfect for the patio!
